Emission Reduction in the Transport Sector
Transportation represents 55 % of the CO2 emissions in the Inland region of Norway. There is a large potential for emission reduction through reduced use of vehicles, more economical driving and increased use of more environmental friendly vehicles and fuels.
Within this sector the Inland Norway Energy Agency will target transportation businesses, municipalities, private companies with large transportation fleets and private households.
Goals
The goals within the transportation sector are to:
- Increase the competence on new technology and available environmental friendly transportation alternatives (bio fuels, hybrid and electric vehicles e.g.)
- Increase the use of more environmental friendly vehicles and fuels in the region
- Raise awareness about the economical and climate effects of eco driving
- Reduce the use of private cars in advantage of public transportation and bicycling
Means
The goals will be achieved through:
- Training sessions for municipalities within procurement of environmental friendly vehicles and transportation services
- Training sessions on eco driving for private and public businesses
- Encourage municipalities to participate in the yearly European Mobility Week/Car-Free Day
- Establishing a network for the main transportation fleets in the region for exchange of experience and best practice
- Offering advisory services to the target groups on "green transportation", national and international financing schemes, and best practice
- Written information materials and brochures
- Extensive, practical and useful information on the Agency's web page
