Awareness Raising among Children and Youth

Children and youth are the consumers and leaders of the future. They are also easily engaged and concerned about environmental issues. Building knowledge and good attitudes and habits among these groups in relations to sustainable use of energy is therefore of great importance.

The Inland Norway Energy Agency will target children and youth of all ages, mainly through schools. This will be done in close cooperation with local energy activity centres for children, and municipalities.

Goals

The goals within the children and youth area are to:

• Contribute to increased knowledge of RES and REU issues and good attitudes for sustainable use of energy among children and youth
• Increase the number of schools in the region with systematic and long term teaching plans on energy issues

Means

The goals will be achieved through:

• Training sessions for teachers and school classes ("Understanding energy and climate, and make an impact"), including training materials
• Awareness raising campaigns with special focus on children and youth
• Promoting existing concepts for teaching children about energy issues; eg. the Rainmakers.
• Promoting best practice from other municipalities on awareness raising activities towards children and youth
• Extensive, practical and useful information on the Agency's web page for schools, teachers and municipalities
